Dr Rod Mawhinney

Dr Mawhinney qualified in Medicine in Bristol in 1977 and trained in Radiology in Nottingham between 1980 and 1987. During this time, he spent two years as Lecturer in Radiology with Nottingham University and was heavily involved in the early clinical applications and introduction of MRI scanning.

He started as a Consultant in Harrogate in 1987 as one of only three consultants. He has seen the department go through great expansion and has extensive general radiological experience.

Dr Mawhinney is a specialist in cross-sectional imaging, drawing on his vast experience his special interests are now particularly Urology, Oncology, Head and Neck, and Chest Radiology.

  • Ultrasound guided prostate biopsy

Outside of work

Dr Mawhinney enjoys multiple sporting activities but is a particularly avid cyclist. He is a keen house renovator and, enjoys photography and bird watching.
